Diagnosis of the Cloudiness of a Glass

Have you ever had a glass which is beautiful with transparency at first, but later turned cloudy, hazy or rough? There are several reasons for it.

A.  Stains like spots

There are several mineral components contained in tap water which are solidified and the water drops become spots that are called water spot or water stain. It usually appears when the glass is not wiped and was being dried naturally. The water stain then becomes whitish when it is left for a long time. There will be no problem if you carefully wipe it every time after you wash it but it is difficult to get rid of the ones that were already there.

It’s like the stains on human skin that are made while aging. At least get rid of the stains get clearer skin.

The stains cannot be removed just by using a neutral detergent as the mineral component is alkaline. As it is neutralized with acidity, try diluting it with water and soak overnight. It will become shiny again.

B Overall, haze

The skin of a glass that is soggy. I don’t know if I look or touch it, but it’s actually uneven. In Japan where the humidity is high, soda ash (Note 1) lurking in the unevenness may be in a state where people sweated.

(Note 1) Soda ash: One of the components that form glass. Sodium carbonate (Na2Co3). White powder and hygroscopic.

C   Rough surface with scratches

Everyday use and reasonable price glasses are often easy to handle and clean. In busy daily life, it is a reliable entity that doesn’t use care, but if you keep using it for a long time, there will be things that appear fine scratches and white and rough.

Unfortunately, there is no way to fix these scratches.
Be cautious as if you keep using it in this state, the glass will get accumulated fatigue and may be broken into pieces.
